25 KM Route

The 25km route starts and ends near parking lot 2 at the Sooke Potholes Regional Park. The race begins with a tough climb up towards Peden Lake, then follows the Lakes Connector Trail toward Shields Lake. Follows the Sooke Mountain Park Trail to the Charter Creek Connector. Climbs Monument Mountain and descends toward Grassy Lake, then down the Harrison Trail. The course finishes with 2 km on the Galloping Goose Trail crossing over the Todd Creek Trestle.

All aid stations are "minor" due to their access. Aid stations will have water, electrolyte drink, gels, fruit, Coke, and maybe some other stuff....

25km Course Description

Start (0.0 km) to Sheilds Lake Aid Station (6.7 km)

[yes, this is the correct spelling of Sheilds Lake]

 

The start is located near Sooke Potholes Parking Lot 2 in Sooke Potholes Regional Park. Climb the Peden Lake Trail past Mary Vine Falls (1 km) and over the Sooke Flowline to Peden Lake (2.5 km). Continue alongside Peden Lake until you reach the information sign and turn left onto the Lakes Connector Trail (3.5km). In 400 meters continue right to stay on the Lakes Connector Trail. (3.9 km)

 

At the junction with Grass Lake Trail (5.5 km), turn left onto Sheilds Lake Trail. Follow Sheilds Lake Trail for 1 km until you see signs for a short out-and-back to the Sheilds Lake Aid Station. Turn right to reach the Aid Station!

 

Sheilds Lake Aid Station (6.7 km) to Quimper Aid Station (12.0 km)

 

Return to Sheilds Lake Trail and turn right. Follow the trail to the Sooke Mountain Park Road at 8.7 km. Enjoy following this wide trail to the Quimper Aid Station (12.0 km).

 

Quimper Aid Station (12.0 km) to Grass Lake Aid Station (18.8 km)

 

Continue on the Sooke Mountain Trail to the information board and intersection with Charters Trail (14.1 km). Turn right onto Charters Trail and head downhill. After crossing the bridge over Charters River, briefly (only 25 meters) turn left onto the Grass Lake Trail before turning right onto the Monument Mountain Trail (15.9 km). This is the steepest climb of the course - you’ve got this! Pass the summit at 18.1 km and enjoy the short descent to Grass Lake Aid Station at 18.8 km.

 

Grass Lake Aid Station (18.8 km) to the Finish (24.8 km)

 

Return to Grass Lake Trail, cross onto Harrison Trail and get your downhill legs moving. Descend the Harrison trail for 4 km until you reach the Galloping Goose Regional Trail (22.9 km). Turn right and follow the Galloping Goose Regional Trail north to the Finish. Congratulations!
